John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of which are set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born Henry John Germandorf at Roswell located in the state of New Mexico, fell in love with Colorado. He moved to Aspen. More than a few people took the road towards Colorado due to Denver's famous anthems to his adopted state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. In the year 2011, Denver was chosen as the first Hall of Fame inductee. For many, Denver is the Colorado image. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other side of the world or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time as a folk musician which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the tune in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear the song's early versions and was aware that the song would be one of the Top 10 hits. The song was recorded a couple of days after playing on stage in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
